Detectives from the Delaware State Police Burglary Squad have announced the arrest of a Claymont man for his involvement in a string of burglaries dating back to May 15.
Jason Vinckx, 39, of West Greenshire Court in Claymont, Delaware was linked to 12 separate incidents and charged with 49 total burglary related offenses, all smash and grab robberies.
Dubbed the "Pasta Burglar," Vinckx, for unknown reasons, primarily targeted the Mr. Pasta restaurant on Philadelphia Pike, striking the location on eight separate occasions. In addition to that particular eatery, he also robbed Fairfax Eyeworks, Sprint Quality Printing, Brandywine Flowers and a Pizza Hut in Wilmington.
One week before his arrest, Vinckx was stopped by patrol officers just off of Marsh Road as he was riding through area shopping centers in a suspicious manner. Although he was not formally charged with a crime at that time, his information was shared with burglary detectives and a mug shot was compared with surveillance video at several of the burglary scenes and a positive match was made.
In surveillance video, police say Vinckx can be seen simply smashing exterior windows or doors of several locations and mainly looking for cash.
Vinckx was apprehended without incident at his girlfriend's residence on 3rd Avenue. He was committed to Howard Young correctional facility in lieu of $82, 400 bond.
