3 On Your Side: Best Buy Drugs Program
by Jim Donovan
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Being an informed consumer when it comes to prescription medications is critical to your health. And with so many choices, how do you know which one is right for you?
3 On Your Side's Jim Donovan details a new program that's aimed to help everyone.
Finding the right, affordable medication can be difficult.
That's why CARIE, The Center For Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of the Elderly has partnered with Consumer Reports to offer free information on the safety, effectiveness and cost of prescription drugs.
"We're helping them get this good information that Consumer Reports has provided, about prescription drugs so they can go to their doctor and be informed and talk to their doctor about what is the best for them," Diane Menio, Executive Director of CARIE said.
At
Consumer Reports Best Buy Drugs, consumers can find detailed information on recent drug reports, diseases and ailments, specific medications ... even money saving guides.
"Most people in this country take one or more prescription drugs and they're really struggling with the high cost. Many times they don't realize that there are alternatives out there," Gail Shearer of Consumer Reports Best Buy Drugs said.
Pamphlets about the program are being distributed at pharmacies, senior centers and doctor's offices.
Area seniors think this is a great idea.
"The prescriptions and things are so high nowadays and this is good for the people that can't afford them," Anna Banks of Philadelphia said.
"I think it's great that they're trying to do something to help us because everybody's cashing in on us," Mary Scott said.
While both CARIE and Consumer Reports are working to make the detailed information from the website available at doctor's offices and pharmacies, right now you can get it from
CARIE.
