3 On Your Side: Gas Grills
by Jim Donovan
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
If you in the market for a new grill, don't be taken in by just looks alone.
3 On Your Side's Jim Donovan has a few ideas for easy outdoor cooking.
Good Housekeeping looked under the hood of the latest models to see how easy they are to assemble, operate and clean.
The Good Housekeeping Institute wanted to find the very best gas grills for your summer parties.
"Everybody likes to grill and when it gets warm out, it's time to buy a new one if your old one has seen better days. So we were looking for grills that were easy to assemble, that cook evenly and have lots of useful features," said Sharon Franke Food Appliances Director Good Housekeeping Institute.
After cooking all sorts of meats and veggies it was easy to pick some favorites.
"We love this Weber grill because you can see how evenly it cooks. There's not a lot of burning or charring here, you're not seeing any flare-ups, the food looks "picture perfect" and that's what we're looking for," Franke said.
The stainless steel Charmglow won in the good-looks department and it also has easy access for hooking-up the tank.
"One of the things we loved about this grill is that it has room for 24 burgers at one time and it has a fairly even heating pattern, which is one of the things you want in a grill," said Franke.
Finally, Good Housekeeping chose a Char-Broil grill as a best value at just over $300.
"We loved the fact that this grill has a side burner that's a griddle, which is great if you want to sauté some peppers or onions. It's really an "all purpose" grill," said Franke.
Good Housekeeping says when you're finished grilling, keep the grill on for ten minutes to burn off the drippings and make cleaning easier.
