3 On Your Side: SEPTA Strike Train Pass Confusion
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
As the SEPTA strike works its way into our first afternoon rush hour, many are wondering if they can still use their train passes, and if so where? 3-On Your Side's Jim Donovan has the information.
Weekly and monthly TransPasses are valid for travel, at all times, to all regional rail stations within the city except Forest Hills and Somerton. Those stations will require a zone 3 fare - ticket or TrailPass.
During the strike, Independence Passes will be accepted on regional rail service going to/through Center City before 9:30 a.m.
Student weekday passes are not valid for travel on regional rail trains. Students who are now forced to use regional rail service must upgrade their student passes to the appropriate TrailPass needed for travel from the station that they use. The student will surrender their weekday pass and receive a credit of $3.13 for each valid day of the pass, towards the purchase of a weekly TrailPass.
SEPTA says if you use your TransPass on a regional rail train, it will be punched. If the pass is punched, you will not be entitled to any refund. If however you decide to drive to work, or use another sort of transportation and the pass isn't punched, you will be given a refund for each day that SEPTA is out on strike.
