3 On Your Side: Get Rid Of Clothing Wrinkles
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
There's nothing more annoying in the morning than getting dressed and finding that your outfit looks like you've slept in it! The folks at the Good Housekeeping Research Institute ran a "Wrinkle-Off" to find the best ways to get clothes looking fresh.
Carolyn Forte coordinated the test for the Institute.
She says, "our goal with this test was to find the best way to do wrinkled clothes to get you out of the house quickly and easily in the morning."
The Institute tested four different methods. They used the steam from a shower, they tumbled them in a dryer, they sprayed them with a wrinkle releaser spray and also used a hand-held steamer.
They then tested each method and rated each method for how well they removed the wrinkles, how little work or how much time you had to invest and how easy they were to do.
According to Carolyn, "For the clothes we hung in the shower, wherever the steam hit, the wrinkles we removed, but, unfortunately, it didn't get all the way down. The clothes we took out of the dryer, it also helped. It removed some of the wrinkles. More from some fabrics than others, but not everything was wrinkle-free."
Good Housekeeping found that the handheld steamer was the most effective, but testers had to spend a half hour using it.
"Our overall winner was the Downy Wrinkle Releaser Spray. It did a good job of removing wrinkles, even from a tough fabric, like a cotton blouse and, while it's drying, you can go take a shower or make breakfast," says Carolyn.
By the way, Good Housekeeping says if you're in a rush to get out the door and you have a stuck zipper, get a pencil. Rub the pencil's lead along the zipper's teeth and move the zipper up and down, the graphite will help the zipper move smoothly.
