3 On Your Side: Mail Order Foods

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― If you've got lots of holiday shopping to do but hate fighting the mall crowds, maybe mail-order foods will do the trick.

From salmon to cheesecakes and everything in between, 3 On Your Side's Jim Donovan found there's a mail-order food gift for even the pickiest person in your family.

The Good Housekeeping Research Institute tried items from many mail order companies and have a few favorites.

"We loved the pastrami smoked salmon from Perona Farms," said Susan Westmoreland with the Institute.  "They are a small farm in New Jersey run by a family.

"The salmon is crusted really deeply with all of the flavors of pastrami, pepper, coriander, a little molasses and paprika, and it's cured similar to how lox are cured."

It retails for $26 a pound plus shipping.

For the fruit lover, Good Housekeeping recommends giving Harvest Song Artisanal Preserves.

"They come in some delicious Mediterranean flavors like golden fig, sour cherry and apricot," Westmoreland said.

They retail for $10 to $12 plus shipping.

If there's a foodie on your gift list, Good Housekeeping says 'O Olive Oil' is a must.

"The company takes their olives and presses them with fresh California citrus. Their latest entry into the market is a Clementine olive oil that they've paired with a California made white balsamic," Westmoreland said.  "It's really delicious on other citrus, steamed greens or just making it into a salad dressing,"

The oils retail for $30 a set plus shipping.

And finally, dessert. Good Housekeeping says creamy 3" mini cheesecakes from David's Cookies are the perfect gift for someone who craves homemade cheesecake.  The mini cheesecakes will cost you $29 for 6 and $40 for 12.
