There is a local connection to a civilian police officer who shot and wounded a gunman during a rampage at Fort Hood that left 13 dead and over 30 wounded.
Officer Kimberly Munley exchanged gunfire with Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan during the tragic incident in Texas Thursday. (

Both Munley and Hasan were wounded in the shootout. Officer Munley's husband, Matthew, grew up in Downingtown, Chester County. He was apparently visiting with family in the area when he learned his wife was injured during the Fort Hood rampage.
CBS 3's Elizabeth Hur spoke on the phone with Officer Munley's mother-in-law, who currently lives in Downingtown.
"Happy that she is safe and doing well
our thoughts are now with the other families coping with this tragedy," Regina Munley said.
Hasan, a 39-year-old Army psychiatrist, killed 12 soldiers and one civilian at the U.S. military base. Authorities believe he was frustrated over being deployed to Iraq. (
