Center City Parking Meter Increase Postponed

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― The Philadelphia Parking Authority announced a meter increase set to take effect Wednesday will not go ahead as planned.

Parking meters in Center City, between 4th to 20th and Arch to Locust Streets, were set to rise to $3 an hour, but they will stay at $2 an hour for the time being.

The increase was planned to help open up parking in the busy downtown area. Officials said they have reached their goal ahead of schedule and will not need the additional jump.

In the areas where parking is in less demand, the PPA said rates will be lowered to $1.50 an hour.

Officials said they will keep monitoring the parking situation to determine any future rate adjustments.
