3 On Your Side: Pharmacy Savings

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― It seems that the price of everything is on the rise today. From food to medication, consumers can't seem to get a break. Your Money Team is always on the lookout for ways to cut costs.

3 On Your Side's Jim Donovan tells us how one supermarket chain is helping customers save on both fronts.

Don't want to waste gas driving to your doctor's office?

Well if you shop at Acme, you can stop off at their Savon pharmacy for your annual flu shot.

"The flu shots are becoming a very important part of today's healthcare," said Acme Savon Pharmacist Chris Duffy.

You can call for an appointment or visit one of their flu shot clinics. The cost is normally $24.99 but some can get the shot for free.

"For the elderly, if they have Medicare Part B without an HMO, it is actually free but they also might have to pay the $24.99 and get reimbursed down the road by their insurance company," said Duffy.

Acme has also launched its prescription plus program. Fill your prescriptions there and you could end up spending less on your food and household purchases.

"For every four prescriptions that you get, you'll get a coupon for 10 percent off your large order purchase from the front store," said Duffy.

The prescription plus program will run through January.

"You can get as many coupons as long as you get four prescriptions from the pharmacy," said Duffy.
