Toddler Dies In Bucks County Parked Minivan

PENNDEL, Pa. (CBS 3) ― The Bucks County District Attorney's office is investigating the death of a young child found in a parked car Wednesday evening.

The 2-year-old boy was found unresponsive inside a minivan parked outside the Fairy-Tales Day Care center in Penndel at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

According to investigators, the young victim was left in the car for approximately seven hours.

The young boy was rushed to St. Mary Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

"An autopsy was performed last evening and the results indicate the cause of death of hyperthermia," Bucks County District Attorney Michelle Henry said.

According to Henry, the child was brought to the location in the van by a family friend at about 9:30 a.m. The friend, identified as Rimma Shvartsman, is a worker and co-owner of the day care.

Shvartsman apparently went to work with the child in the minivan, Henry said.

"She's indicated that she forgot that the child was in the car at the time," Henry said.

A statement from Shvartsman's lawyer was released late Thursday afternoon:

"It is with great sorrow and sadness that we acknowledge and commemorate the death of this beautiful boy, Daniel Slutsky, the young neighbor and friend of Rimma and her family. This was a tragic accident, and of course, if there were any way she could revisit yesterday's events and undo this terrible series of events, she would do so in an instant. We have been cooperating fully with the police, the District Attorney's Office and the state licensing authorities. We are answering all questions from the authorities, opening our files and our facility to the DA. Our great sadness and our prayers go with the Slutsky Family in this terrible time of their loss."

The incident remains under investigation.
