Family, Friends Toast Pa. Marine With Online Beer

BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS 3) ― Family and friends of a Bucks County Marine are making him feel at home by toasting him in a very special and high-tech way.

Lance Corporal Jay Hill, who is also a Bensalem Police Officer, is a true hero in every sense of the word.

"Even when he's not over in Iraq serving America, he's here serving his local community as an officer in Bensalem. So the guy never gets a day off," cousin John Howard explained.

So when Jay was deployed to Iraq this past August, his family and friends picked up a beer and a camera.

They started an online YouTube tribute to Jay for the next 240 days of his tour.

CBS 3 cameras were at Campbell's Field in Camden Friday evening as members of the Bensalem Police Department did their "Beer a Day For Jay" for the 34th time since he was deployed to Iraq.

"Everyday he can go on and see a little piece of home and know that we're thinking about him," Howard said.

All Jay's family and friends have a beer toast to him every single night except for his wife -- because she is expecting.

"It was hard in the beginning to think that 'o we're going to have a baby and he's not going to be here,'" wife Jacqueline said.

Jacqueline is due in approximately two and half weeks. It is not known whether Jay will be able to return home from Iraq when their baby is born.

"I won't lie, I do break down once a week, I get my cry out, but other than that, I'm really good," Jacqueline explained.

Family and friends said the YouTube tribute has been a great way to keep the Lance Corporal up to date on what is going on back at home.

Jacqueline had a message for her husband next time he logs on from Iraq.

"Just come home safe, what people take for granted everyday is what I want right now."
