Brotherly Love: Man Creates Prayer Website
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Taking prayer requests high-tech: A computer programmer thinks of a unique way to update the traditional prayer circle.
It turns out, he needed the prayers the most.
Little did Lawrence James know, but he would be one of the first to use his Internet prayer chain when a tumor was found in his chest.
James knows computers.
A graduate of Drexel's science and information systems, he co-owns Connexus Technology, a company that helps businesses with long-term IT projects.
"The one thing I love about computers and software development is the sky's the limit," said James.
James is also a man of faith.
He joined his church's prayer team and thought there was a better way to expand the prayer circle beyond the congregation.
"Just being an IT person, you see areas of improvement and efficiency," said James.
So he created the website Prayer Connexus.
It puts prayer requests on the Internet.
Right around the same time, James started developing chest pain.
He went to the hospital, and doctors found a tumor.
"First, I didn't believe it," said James.
"There was definitely some type of error and just shock, and then I started crying immediately after that."
James would be one of the first to post a computerized prayer circle.
"People were using the system that we patched up to work to pray for me, and I was healed," said James.
Since then more than 4300 from around the world have visited Prayer Connexus.
Susan Haine worked with James when he was at school at Drexel.
She says she's not surprised he used his degree for a higher calling.
"Somebody who is giving back, who has had so much along the way.
He's faced adversity, he's faced illness.
He's come out and he's done something good, and he continues to do something good for his community," said Haine.
James said, "It's just awesome to see something that was just a concept and touch so many lives around the world."
