You've finally reached the golden years, ready to retire, only to find out, there is so much you want to doand so much more you have to offer. Linda Mullins says, there's still plenty of time to sit in a rocking chair, but right now, there are children she wants to help.
"I think it's very important," Mullins said. "I think it not only gives you something to look forward to, you get so much back in return."
Once a week, Linda Mullins returns to the classroom to read to children. She recently retired after years as a teacher. But she realized, she had so much more to give.
Her favorite part is "for me just being with children and getting their feedback from the stories and their hugs and things like that," said Mullins.
Linda Mullins gives back at Montgomery County Head Start. Each week, she reads to 4-year-olds and 5-year-olds. Using math skills, song and participation, she reinforces what they have learned. All these guys know is, this is fun!
"To see the world through their eyes is just very special," said Mullins. "They still have, believe in a little magic."
Linda is part of RSVPRetired Senior Volunteer Program. RSVP's Janis Glusman says there are so many more people in our area like Linda who have so much to give to help others.
"We have people who have been homemakers all their lives, people who have been computer scientists, rocket scientists," said Glusman.
People with something to give to help others, just like Linda.
"She brings such enthusiasm and joy and excitement and also experimenting, that the children are able to become involved, and she leaves no one out," said Bertha Johnson of Montgomery County Head Start.
