CBS3.com DJ Swims With The Sharks
Camden, N.J. (CBS 3) ―
With their powerful jaws and infamous attacks, sharks have developed quite a bad rap over the years, but experts at Camden's
Adventure Aquarium say sharks don't seek humans as prey and most attacks don't prove fatal.
Still, would you have the guts to swim with the sharks? That's exactly what CBS3.com Digital Journalist Nicole Brewer did Wednesday as part of National Shark Week.
"Swim with the Sharks" is one of our most popular exhibits here at Adventure Aquarium. Guests see twenty-six different sharks from 3 different species," said Husbandry Director Marc Kind.
After suiting up, Brewer learned a few lessons in Shark 101 ... that's when she descended into the shark tank to find out whether she would become a survivor or shark bait.
Throughout the experience, Brewer snorkeled behind a stone ridge, which allowed her to keep a safe distance from the sharks while appreciating their beauty.
On more than a few occasions, the sharks came just inches from her face.
"I thought I would have freaked out, but it was surprisingly peaceful under the water," said Brewer.
After a 20 minute viewing time, Brewer headed over to stingray lagoon, where she got up-close and person with dozens of stingrays.
"They were all over me ... mostly because I had plenty of fish heads for feeding!" explained Brewer.
In the end, our CBS3.com DJ made it out of the tank alive with just these few words.
"No guts, no glory ... For CBS3.com, I'm Nicole Brewer."
Adventure Aquarium's Swim With The Sharks program is available to people ages 12 and older. The cost is $165. You can purchase your tickets by clicking
