Local Cancer Survivor Gets Surprise Of A Lifetime
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
For local makeup artist and three time cancer survivor Carolyn Diamond, the right shade of lipstick goes a long way.
"Coco Chanel said if you want to feel good, buy a new tube of lipstick ... and it's so true," said Diamond.
Having been diagnosed with stage four melanoma in 1986, then given a twenty-percent chance of survival, Diamond beat the odds, but never forgot the battle.
"I made a promise to God. I said, keep me alive and I will do whatever you need me to do," said Diamond.
So far, that's meant breaking out the blush brush and sharpening the eye pencil ... all to enliven women affected by cancer.
"When you feel like you can't get out of bed in the morning, sometimes all it takes is a little color in your face to get you feeling and looking better," explained Diamond.
Still, Diamond's dedication to finding a cure goes beyond the beauty bar. She's raising money and awareness through a "Wall of Fame" in her home studio.
"I ask my clients to donate money for every autographed picture I collect ... and they do it," said Diamond.
The money goes to the American Cancer Society, so we presented Diamond with pictures of the Eyewitness News Team, then arranged for a visit from Bill Cosby.
"I'm absolutely thrilled," said a shocked Diamond as she hugged the mega star. "This is what stars are made of .... I love this man!"
