Back To School Tips: It's More Than Just Shopping
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
With back to school just around the corner, students everywhere are gearing up to make the grade.
And while shopping has become synonymous with back to school, a new survey by parenting website
'greatschools.net' reveals parents may be focusing too much on shopping and not enough on preparing.
"It's enormously important to focus on all aspects of back to school ...not just shopping," said
Temple University psychologist Frank Farley.
So, what can parents do to ensure a great school year for their child?
Farley suggests knowing the school inside and out before the school year begins.
"You should know the school schedule, the class schedule and the bus schedule. You should go to the school in advance if it's a new school," explained Farley.
Secondly, parents should show enthusiasm for the upcoming school year.
"You've got to be enthusiastic, involved and interested as parents."
Finally, he urges parents to maintain that initial involvement throughout the year.
"Get to know the teachers, volunteer. Fit it in somehow."
