Philly Blog Tells The Shmitten Kitten Truth

Personal Tales Of Love Like And Sometimes Hate

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― For best friends Anna Goldfarb and Shannon Alsop, conversation over coffee doesn't end with the last sip.

As "Co-Kitten Chiefs" for the increasingly popular blog, "Shmitten Kitten," Anna and Shannon work together to transfer their personal tales of love, like and sometimes hate, into written illustrations and blog posts. The idea was conceived over coffee.

"We were just sitting in a coffee shop, like we always do, and she said, 'it was so weird, I just woke up, bolted out of bed and I knew I wanted to do Shmitten Kitten.' Then we started laughing and thinking about the ridiculous boys and all the stories," Alsop said.

The ladies blog is about everything from dating disasters and worst kisses to what they call "ghost boys."

"Ghost boy are boys who are there in the flesh one minute, then poof! They're haunting the outskirts of your life. It's like, what? Where did that guy go," explains Alsop.

Anna and Shannon might poke fun at their male suitors, but if you think these kittens are catty, think again.

"These are boys who have disappointed us, annoyed us, but ya know, we still love them," said Goldfarb.

In addition to the written word, these men are personified on paper and known as the men of Shmitten Kitten. They come in many forms, from "The Fishtown Married Brosif", to "The Aging Hipster" and, who could forget, "The Chinatown Bus Boy."

"Our depictions are just spot on. People say 'Oh I know that guy,'" said Alsop.

Thousands of hits later, it seems the witty words and stereotypical snapshots resonate with readers.

"Girls like it because they can relate to us … guys like it because they get to evesdrop and see what we really think," explains Goldfarb.

That includes the good, the bad and the shmitten kitten truth.
