'Rock & Roll After School' Opens In Phoenixville
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
For 11-year-old Isaiah Weatherspoon, keeping the beat comes naturally.
From banging on pots and pans as a baby to his first drum set at age three, he's now taking his talent to the next level as one of dozens of students enrolled in
'Rock & Roll After School,' a combination music school and recreational facility.
Housed in Phoenixville, the brand new member based facility boasts a professional stage, DJ booth and sound proof rooms for private instruction. Still, organizers say the band program offers the best incentive for learning.
"Playing in a band format, you want to make sure you have your part down. You want to make sure you're playing well and don't let down your team," said President Erin Riley.
After refinancing her home, Riley put her own equity on the line to open the facility. She says it was her teenage son who inspired her to take on the project.
"There are kids like my son all over the place ... kids who love music, but haven't found their niche in the school system," said Riley.
"Here, they can write songs, play in a band and socialize around music."
Open to students ages eight to eighteen, 'Rock & Roll After School' costs $195 for basic enrollment, which includes one forty-five minute private lesson and access to the facility during operation.
