Fans Get 'Flyered' Up!

Spirits High At Flyers Playoff Block Party

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―

Thousands of fans funneled through the entrance of the Wachovia Center early Tuesday for the Bud Light Playoff Block Party leading up to Game 3 of the National Hockey League's Eastern Conference Finals.

The event, which included live performances from top-area bands and interactive games, was held from 4 p.m. to the start of the hockey game.

The Philadelphia Flyers lost to the Penguins 4-1 in a game many say is critical to the Philadelphia team's vitality this playoff season.

Despite the high stakes, the folks in attendance were able to kick back and enjoy the block party.

Long-time Flyers fan, Jim Vitucci said, "Everybody's upbeat. We're starting flyers chants … getting the band going. Everyone is really upbeat."

Other fans said they felt confident in the Flyers ability to pull out a win.

"We're going to turn it around starting tonight. Watch out Crosby," said Rob Jablonski of South Jersey.

The crowded 11th street side of the Wachovia Center was a sea of orange as every person at the block party received a free orange tee-shirt.

The slogan on the front of the shirt read "Why Not Us?"

After Thursday's game, these Philadelphia Flyers fans will know one way or the other.
