Hero Thrill Show: Rally For A Cause

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―

In a visible show of support for the families of fallen Philadelphia police officers and firefighters, hundreds gathered at City Hall's Dilworth Plaza Tuesday to raise awareness for the upcoming 'Hero Thrill Show.'

The event, which aims to raise funds for those children pursuing higher education, will offer a unique opportunity for public safety officers and the community to work together to support the families of those killed in the line of duty.

Tuesday's rally included appearances by scheduled 'Hero Thrill Show' performers, Police and Fire Department units as well as concerned community members.

And while the event focused on educational funding, many turned out for a different reason: to say thank you.

"In the time that we live in, with such increased crime and violence, I'm glad to see these guys and gals on the job ...protecting our city," said Jeannette Logan of North Philadelphia.

Mount Airy resident Rick Wright offered a similar sentiment.

"They're just like us, you know. They're just like us. They need help too. So, it's very good that we can bring that back to them."

The third annual 'Hero Thrill Show' is slated for Saturday, September 6th from noon to 5 p.m. outside the Wachovia complex. For more information on the event and what you can do to help, click here.
