S. Jersey Man Dubbed "Internet's Music Teacher"
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
It's musical instruction ... with a digital twist.
Armed with a web camera and guitar, tech-savvy instructor Walt Ribeiro can be seen 'round the clock through daily tutorials and free online music lessons.
"The best part of what I do is that I'm able to help people all day. So, it's free, it's fun and it's educational," said Ribeiro.
Corporate sponsorships and product placement serve as Ribeiro's revenue, which allows him to continue offering his services free of charge.
"My shirt is sponsored, my guitar is sponsored ... and they're exclusive partnerships on my site," explained Ribeiro.
From technique and theory to artistic branding and marketing, Ribeiro's "daily dose" covers topics generated by his hundreds of thousands of users.
"The community is telling you from start to finish how to run something like this. They tell me what they like, what they don't like and what they need updated," explained Ribeiro.
Once a week, users interact with Ribeiro in real time through a one-hour music lesson hosted on U-Stream.
"Everything is in real time, so you don't have to wait for an e-mail, which can take two or three days," said Ribeiro.
Instead, these users simply click send and wait for Walt to shed light on their question.
"It's fun .. it really is. And, it let's me do what I love."
