Earthquake Shakes Parts Of Delaware, N.J.

SALEM, N.J. (CBS 3) ― A rare earthquake rumbled parts of South Jersey and Delaware Wednesday morning.

The Office of Emergency Management began receiving reports of a tremor at about 9:45 a.m.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey department, the epicenter of the 2.8 magnitude quake was in Pennsville, N.J. and stretched into parts of Delaware and Pennsylvania.

About 150 calls flooded the 911 center at Salem County's emergency services building after the ground shook, rattling buildings and windows.

Initially many people reported feeling that the rumble was the caused by an explosion in the area, shock waves from the ground were felt as far away as Claymont, Delaware.

No injuries were reported and no structures were apparently damaged.
