A Day To Remember:

Waking up to Severe Storms this morning was something that has not happened in quite some time.

The only event that seemed similar was the early morning Tornado Outbreak in Narberth, Montgomery County back in the spring on '06.

Today's storms really delivered that famous, "one-two punch", with a second round of Severe Storms in the afternoon.

We counted up the lightning strikes, the first round of storms had 5800 lightning strikes in just 2 1/2 hours. Tuesday afternoon, another 2300 strikes hit just a few counties.

If you do the math 8100 strikes! If you could harness it, that's enough electricity to run a power plant for 4 hours!

More Severe Weather possible Thursday ... we'll keep you updated!

Busy Weather Day!

Wow, it was a very busy day in our CBS 3 Weather Center.

Severe thunderstorms exploded over New Castle County, Del. and South Jersey. New Castle County, Delaware and Salem County, New Jersey got hit the hardest with wind damage knocking down trees & power lines.

In the old New Castle area, Dobbinsville, Delaware, residents claimed they saw a funnel cloud. While they may have, the Delaware Emergency Management says the damage was due to straight line thunderstorm winds.

On Wednesday, our stalled cold front will be the catalyst for more afternoon thunderstorms. Conditions are favorable again for severe storms with damaging winds and hail.

Weekend Brings Severe Weather Threat

A warm and more humid air mass will be over the Delaware Valley Saturday and could set off some Severe Thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center has put our entire area under the "slight" risk for severe weather Saturday. The main threat will be damaging winds and small hail. After the associated cold front moves through, a refreshing change will sneak in for Mother's Day!

Race Weather

Of course thousands of people will gather at the Art Museum for the Komen Race For The Cure Sunday morning. The women of Eyewitness News will be there. The race starts @ 8:15AM, it will be 59 degrees, mostly sunny and breezy.

Enjoy the day!

Eight Days Of Rain … And A Flood Watch!

Pockets of heavy rain will continue into the night with some rumbles of thunder!

The warm front that brought severe weather to the Southern States and Midatlantic is moving north. I am not expecting anything severe in theDelaware Valley, but heavy downpours could cause flooding.

The storms have a history of dropping a quick 1/2 inch to 1 inch of rain. Most of the area is under a FLOOD WATCH through Thursday. Remember to take it slow during the morning rush and give yourself some extra time!

Friday and Saturday our unsettled pattern remains, more on that tomorrow!

Stay Safe,

Kathy
