Race For The Cure Inspires Thousands
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Thousands of breast cancer survivors and supports joined the Women of Eyewitness News to take part in the 18th annual Susan G. Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure®. Opening ceremonies began at 7 a.m. with the 5K run/walk following at 8:15 a.m. at Eakins Oval just outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Susan Barnett, Natasha Brown, Pat Ciarrocchi, Carol Erickson, Liz Keptner, Maria La Rosa, Kathy Orr, Stephanie Stahl and Mary Stoker Smith hosted the annual 5-K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Walk to raise money in support of breast cancer research and education.
The CBS 3 team was by a list of media personalities as well as Vince Hill of KYW Newsradio 1060 and his wife, Janis, a breast cancer survivor.
More than 45,000 people registered to participate in this year's race and an estimated 100,000 people gathered in support of the cause. Lat year's Race for the Cure raised $3.5 million for the fight against breast cancer. The total amount raised this year has not yet been released.
Elarbi Khattabi was the winner of this year's race and the first person to cross finish line. Margaret Zuccotti was the first survivor to cross finish line.
The Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure® is hosted by the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
