CBS 3 Hosts Call For The Cure
CALL FOR THE CURE' AIRS THURSDAY, APRIL 30, 3-8 PM ON CBS 3
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
CBS 3's Women of Eyewitness News will once again kick off their support for the upcoming Susan G. Komen Philadelphia Race for the CureĀ® (Mother's Day, May 10th) with a five hour on-air fundraiser for breast cancer research, education and outreach. The second annual Call for the Cure will be broadcast live from CBS 3's Great Hall in the station's state-of-the-art HD Broadcast Center on Thursday, April 30th from 3 to 8 p.m.
Pledges can be made by credit card or check by calling the all-volunteer phone bank at 1-877-KYW-3ASK (1-877-599-3275). Donations can also be made online by logging on to www.cbs3.com that day.
The station is making time available in newscasts, in commercial break time and within some regularly-scheduled programming during those five hours. CBS 3's Susan Barnett, Pat Ciarrocchi, Carol Erickson, Liz Keptner, Kathy Orr, Maria LaRosa and Mary Stoker Smith will spearhead the effort to raise funds for the Race, the largest breast cancer fundraiser of its kind in the Philadelphia area. Natasha Brown, anchor of The CW Philly's Wake Up News, will join them in the fundraising effort with CBS 3 Medical Reporter Stephanie Stahl providing special reports throughout the day on the latest medical treatment for this disease.
CBS 3's on-air staff as well as volunteers from the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Wawa, The Rosenfeld Center at Abington Memorial Hospital and Carlino's Specialty Foods and Catering will be staffing the phones that day, along with personalities from the station's CBS Radio sister stations.
In addition, CBS3.COM will host a web chat from 4 to 6:30 p.m. that day featuring a doctor and two oncology clinical nurse specialists from Abington Memorial Hospital who will be available to answer viewer questions.
"In these tough economic times, more women find themselves without insurance and in greater need of the critical services that this great organization provides each day," says CBS 3 and CW Philly President and General Manager Jon Hitchcock. "For that reason, this fundraising effort is more important than ever and CBS 3 is proud to lead this effort."
"Funds raised from last year's Race for the Cure, will provide nearly 5,000 free mammograms and close to 4,000 free clinical breast exams," says Elaine I. Grobman, Executive Director of the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate. "If you can't join us in this important mission on Mother's Day, we hope you will join us in spirit by making a contribution to the Call for the Cure. Every dollar helps to create a world without breast cancer."
CBS 3 acknowledges the support of Wawa, The Rosenfeld Center at Abington Memorial Hospital and Carlino's Specialty Foods and Catering in making this special fundraising effort possible. CBS 3 (KYW-TV) and The CW Philly (WPSG-TV) are part of CBS Television Stations, a division of CBS Corporation.
