A reward is now being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a pair of thieves who stole thousands in donations from a breast cancer charity in Center City Wednesday afternoon.
Surveillance cameras at the Liberty Place shops at 16th and Chestnut Streets caught the images of two suspects as they stalked a fundraiser being held by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.
Waiting for the opportune time, one suspect is seen holding an exit door open while the other suspect climbs underneath a table before grabbing an envelope full of funds and bolting for the door.
Two witnesses chased the suspects on foot, but lost the men after several blocks. Officials report the pair made off with over $5,000 in cash and checks.
Rebecca Cohen Clayter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure said the funds were part of the upcoming "Race For The Cure" on Mother's Day, May 10. The money was made up of registration fees, parking passes and raffle ticket purchases.
Police said the suspects are described as African-American males. One was about 5'11" tall and was wearing a black and white hoodie. The second suspect was wearing an olive green sweatshirt and sweatpants and a hat.
Jeffrey Ferro, the COO of Parente Randolph, which also operates out of Liberty Place offices, was "appalled" by the theft and has agreed to write a check to replace the lost funds.
If you have any information, you are urged to contact Philadelphia Police.
Thousands of runners and walkers raise millions of dollars every year for the fight against breast cancer during the "Race For The Cure."
The 'Susan G. Komen For The Cure' will hold registration for the "Race For The Cure" on Saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods throughout the region.
The Citizens Crime Commission is administering a $1,000 reward for information that results in the arrest and conviction of the males responsible for the theft. The reward has been posted by the Axis Construction Company. To be eligible for the reward, information must be called in to the Crime Commission Tipline, and caller must obtain a code number from the operator.
