PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― The 17th Annual Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure was held Sunday morning at the Philadelphia Art Museum and survivors from all over gathered to show their support for loved ones and each other.

The 3.1 mile race celebrated its 17th year of raising money for breast cancer research and bringing survivors and supporters together.

There were several activities on this wonderful day including a one-mile walk, Survivor's Tent, and information regarding breast cancer detection and research.

It is a potentially deadly disease, but the Race For The Cure event unifies breast cancer, bringing friends and family together.

The walk raises money to fight the disease and to bring to people's attention just how serious breast cancer is and it did just that.

Each year, the Race For The Cure has helped raise enormous amounts of money to help fight breast cancer. Every two minutes a woman is diagnosed with the disease.

"It always means something very different every year, no matter how many years we see this, every year the inspiration and passion for it just increases for everyone who is here," CBS 3 President and General Manager Michael Colleran said.

About 75% of the money raised in each individual race stays within the local community to fund breast health education, breast cancer screening and treatment projects.

CBS 3 is a proud sponsor of Race For The Cure, which is the largest series of 5k runs/walks in the world. In 2005, more than 1 million people participated in the Race.
