Mother Nature is forcing the organizers of the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk to scale it back to one day. It's the first time the events been modified so drastically.

The national spokesperson for Breast Cancer 3-Day, Jenne Fromm told CBS3, "Safety is really our top concern and we can't in good conscience allow our participants to be out walking."

This year, three thousand people signed up to walk and raised $7.7 million.

Hundreds of participants refused to allow Mother Nature to dampen their spirits. Instead, they still got out their best walking shoes and hit the area malls including the King of Prussia Mall and the Willow Grove Park Mall to get their 60 miles in.

Sarah Spetgang with the team, 'Breastest Friends' said, "We thought you know what? We did all the work and we have to show everyone we can walk 60 miles so we're doing it."

Kristy Strobl, a member of 'These Boobs Are Made for Walking' added, "My husband and I are 33. We met when we were 19. His mom was 41 when she passed away from breast cancer. She was a ten-year survivor, diagnosed at 31 and I promised him that I would always do this walk in her name."

Strobl and fellow participants said they will walk wherever they have to for as long as it takes if it will help their cause and raise awareness for breast cancer.

Dawn Seymour with 'The Boobie Fairies' said, "You meet people, hear their stories and you just walk away so much richer than when you came. We're just hoping, not too far down the road, we're going to make a difference and find a cure."

"What we're hoping is provide that feeling of connection, community and excitement that our participants get in three days and just cram it all into one day instead," Fromm said.

According to organizers, on Sunday, all of the participants will walk the route originally planned and end with the closing ceremonies at 5pm at Navy Yard.
