Susan Barnett, Pat Ciarrocchi, Carol Erickson, Alycia Lane, Kathy Orr, Angela Russell, Stephanie Stahl, Mary Stoker Smith and Lesley Van Arsdall will host the annual 5-K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run to raise money in support of breast cancer research and education. CBS 3/UPN 57 President and General Manager Michael Colleran and his family will lead the station team participating in the Race. This year the station is dedicating its run and on-air efforts to the memory of Geaneen Rutledge Buford, the station's public affairs director until 2004. Buford lost her 17-month battle with breast cancer late last month. "Like many families in the Delaware Valley, our station family has been personally touched by this terrible disease. It has only strengthened our commitment to the cause," Colleran says. "Until there is a cure, we will be out in full force every Mother's Day."
All seven of the CBS stations in the Philadelphia market CBS 3 (KYW-TV), UPN57 (WPSG-TV), KYW Newsradio 1060, 98.1 WOGL, 94 Free FM WYSP, SportsRadio 610 WIP and The Big Talker 1210AM WPHT are sponsors of the Race, now the largest fundraiser of its kind in Philadelphia. In addition, B-101 has joined the media line-up. All of the stations will be airing public service announcements, special news reports and other programming leading up to Mother's Day to raise awareness of the event.
CBS 3's Eyewitness News will feature stories about the latest technologies being used to fight the disease as well as profiles of survivors all week leading up to the Race. On Thursday, May 11th the station, in partnership with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, will host a phone bank of experts including some of the top doctors in the field -- in its studios from 4 to 7 p.m. They will be available to answer viewer questions
