AC Workers Push To Make Smoking Ban Permanent

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) ― Hoping to convince at least one more Atlantic City council member that a temporary casino smoking ban is working, casino workers are pushing to make it permanent.

The council voted 5-4 last week to delay the ban for one year due to the economic crisis, and a final vote is scheduled for Monday.

That's also the day a temporary ban—which took effect last Wednesday—is due to end.

So casino workers are arming themselves with every argument they can muster to salvage the ban the council approved in April.

The 11 casinos say the crashing economy warrants putting off the ban for a year, but some casino workers dispute that.

Dealers say their tips are up since the ban took effect, and they claim there's been no noticeable drop in casino patrons in that time.
