AC Race Course Wants More Cash For More Racing

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) ― The Atlantic City Race Course says it might only offer six days of racing next year—unless it gets a cut of some casino funds.

The track says it will meet the state-mandated 20-day minimum schedule if it can get part of a $90 million fund intended to help state racetrack purses. The Atlantic City course is not one of the tracks scheduled to benefit from the fund.

Changing that would require amending numerous legal agreements with several agencies. It also would open the door to other parties who also want part of the cash.

The matter will be considered at the state Racing Commission's Nov. 19 meeting.
