Young Atlantic County Stabbing Victim Dies
MAYS LANDING, N.J. (CBS 3) ―
A young girl who was fighting for her life after being stabbed by her uncle, died Wednesday night at a New Jersey hospital.
Authorities say Kimberly McCarten passed away at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center after undergoing surgery for stab wounds. She died at 9:40 p.m. from severe blunt force trauma to the head.
Kimberly, her twin sister, Courtney, and their grandmother, Loretta Weed, 65, were victims of a triple stabbing rampage by Loretta's son, Ronald. Loretta died hours after the attack and Courtney remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Police allege Ronald, 40, used a ceramic bowl, axe handle and a knife to attack his mother and nieces in the home located at 465 South Nectar Avenue in Galloway Township.
The girls, from Alabama, were visiting their grandmother for the summer and were planning to return home that day.
Weed's father has said he is a schizophrenic and during a court appearance Wednesday, Ronald Weed told a judge he was treated at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital 10 years ago, but is not currently under a doctor's care.
In addition to the two murder counts, Ronald Weed is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and possession of weapons for unlawful purposes.
Weed remains held on $1 million bail.
