Child Dies After Being Left In A.C. Minivan

ATLANTIC CITY (CBS 3) ― A three-year-old Atlantic City girl died after accidentally being left inside a minivan for several hours Thursday, according to police.

Police said the tragic incident happened in the 100 block of North Delancy Avenue.

The child was accidentally left inside her car after returning home from a shopping trip with her parents at about 2 p.m.

Investigators said the child's parents thought their daughter had exited the car and went to an upstairs complex to visit a family member, as she has often done in the past.

When family members were not able to find the young girl after several hours, police said they began to search the area.

The child's 36-year-old mother found her after searching the mini-van just after 5 p.m.

Numerous attempts to resuscitate the young girl were unsuccessful. An autopsy is expected to be performed Friday morning.

Police said no foul play is suspected at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
