Angie's List: Animal Kennels
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Are you planning on taking a trip anytime this year?
Well, before you pack those bags, have you
thought about who will take care of Fido or Fluffy?
In this week's Angie's List report, Jim
Donovan shows us what to look for when choosing a kennel.
According to a recent Angie's List poll, 62% of people that
responded have used an animal kennel in the past when they've traveled. If your pet needs a home away from home when
you travel, Angie's List founder Angie Hicks has some advice.
"You should visit the actual kennels you're
considering, talk to the staff, see how they interact with the animals,"
Hicks said. "Also, check how clean the facility is and understand exactly
what types of services they offer."
When considering a kennel, Angie suggests bringing your pet
in and doing a dry run. That way you can
see how your four legged friend will fair with strangers.
Also, be sure to inquire about the kennel's policies
regarding exercise, playtime and let them know about any special attention your
pet requires.
"We found in a recent Angie's List poll that the
exercise times and personal attention are really important to members so you
want to make sure you cover those items when you're doing your
interviews," Hicks said.
The kennel should have all your information before you leave
town and you should know their after-hours contact information. Being away from home and in an unfamiliar
place can be really stressful to some pets.
If that's the case with your pet, hiring a pet sitter may be better in
those situations.
