City Volunteers Sought In Honor Of 9-11
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter is calling on city residents to answer the call to volunteer on the eighth anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
Over 85 organizations will be taking part in the PhillyServes volunteer fair at City Hall Friday.
President Barack Obama is asking Americans to honor the memory of those lost during the September 11 tragedy by offering acts of service and volunteerism.
"This Sept. 11, and in the days, weeks, and months that follow, let us recommit ourselves to service, renew America's promise, and work together as one people and one Nation," President Obama stated in a press release.
Volunteers from Greater Philadelphia Cares, SEPTA, AARP and CityYear will also be on hand at SEPTA stops throughout the city Friday handing out free children's books to promote reading.
