Bucks County Remembers Local 9/11 Victims

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, Pa. (CBS 3) ― The September 11th attacks claimed the lives of 17 Bucks County residents who were honored in a beautiful ceremony Monday morning.

Dozens gathered for the emotional ceremony at Veterans Plaza in Newtown Borough to remember the lives that were lost. Others gathered to recount the events of that horrific day.

The ceremony was especially important to attendee Vic Bittman, who was in New York at the time of the attacks.

"You remember it. You feel it. There is always a little bit of not a fear in your stomach. You're going back into the warzone on the anniversary of the day. Are they going to do anything today? Am I going to be affected by the day? You just don't know," said Bittman.

A wreath was the main focus of the ceremony as 17 roses were placed in it to symbolize the lost Bucks County residents.

The service would have been held at the Garden Of Reflection in Lower Makefield, which is official site of the Pennsylvania 9/11 memorial, but it is still under construction.

The wreath that was laid at the ceremony will be displayed at the Garden Of Reflection when it officially opens on September 30th.

Colleen Campbell, who is an emergency medical technician in Newtown, was there to pay her respects to those who gave their own lives attempting to rescue the victims trapped in the Twin Towers.

"I have a great sense of pride for our fellow brothers and sisters that were killed for the people that were in the wrong place at the wrong time. A great sense of honor and a great sense of love for our country," said Campbell.
