Gloucester Co. Remembers Local 9/11 Victims

MANTUA (CBS 3) ― Residents in Gloucester County remembered three locals killed in the September 11 attacks during their Patriot's Day ceremony Tuesday.

Dozens gathered at the county's "Place of Reflection" in Mantua for the solemn memorial six years after that unforgettable day.

Family and friends shed tears and gave out hugs to remember three area residents, John Rodak, Nicholas W. Brandemarti and Perry Thompson, who lost their lives September 11, 2001.

"A lot of these other areas are not having these ceremonies anymore," said John Kenish, brother-in-law of one of the victims. "They had them last year for the fifth year, now we're in the sixth; it seems like it doesn't mean much to anyone anymore."

Gloucester County did not scale back their annual remembrance ceremony as bagpipers played in the rain while family members laid flowers at memorial plaques bearing their loved ones' names.

Nicholas Brandemarti had just begun his career at an investment banking firm in the World Trade Center when he was killed in the attacks.

Brandemarti's uncle, Bill Lynch, said the annual ceremony is important to the family.

"It's part of the healing process. It brings us all together. We share memories of Nicky and celebrate his life."
